Because of easily neglected the signs and symptoms in early stage of some diseases, it is vital to know how to care for your own health correctly. Through knowledge learning, regular self-examination and health checkups, we could improve health status by early detection, diagnosis and treatment at the earliest possible stage of certain diseases.

There are a number of common diseases only targeting women, such as menstrual disorders, pelvic problems, cervical diseases and breast diseases etc. Today we are going to focus on cervical problems and breast diseases.

Abnormal Cervical Cells

- What’s the abnormal cervical cells? What’s the relationship between abnormal cervical cells and cervical cancer? 

Abnormal cervical cells are the changes of the cells’ appearance of cervical inner layer, also known as cervical aplasia. Abnormal cervical cells don’t necessarily mean cervical cancer. Without timely treatment, it could develop to cervical cancer in the future.

Abnormal cervical cells normally find out when perform routine cervical screening and TCT test, that’s why it is very important to regular perform a female health checkup in prevention of cervical cancer.

- What’s the reason causing abnormal cervical cells?

There are so many reasons causing abnormal cervical cells. The common causes are infection, inflammation or cells with abnormal appearance caused by certain types of Human papillomavirus (HPV) etc. 

- HPV transmission route:

HPV, is one of the most common virus with no obvious clinical symptoms causing by, but without treatment, it could lead to genital cancer.

Almost 99.7 % of all cervical cancers are caused by HPV infection.

Transmission route: HPV is the most common sexually transmitted virus, even the carrier is asymptomatic, can also transmit virus through the "intimate contact" or sharing daily necessities. Therefore, it’s very important to pay attention to personal hygiene and sexual health.

- Screening method of cervical cancer

Chapter 1: TCT test

TCT is the abbreviation of Thinprep cytologic test, which is the most common used screening test method worldwide. According to research, TCT can not only detect cervical cancer nearly 100%, but also increase the detection rate to 23.3% of early cervical cancer and precancerous lesion, compared with traditional Pap smear.

As general advice, all women need to have a TCT after three year of becoming sexually active, and every year thereafter to monitor any changes in the cervix. If women have history of HPV infection, TCT should be performed at least once a year. If possible, conjunctions with a HPV DNA test.


Chapter 2: HPV DNA test

Human papillomavirus (HPV) test is valued for certain disease such as genital warts, cervical cancer etc. HPV DNA test for oncogenic HPV (also known as "high-risk type HPV") is applicable to people in high risk of cervical cancer, positive results in previous Pap smear, or have an equivocal result in the current screening test. For woman more than 35-year-old, conjunction with a TCT test to diagnose cervical cancer is also recommended by health professional. But this check does not apply to woman less than 30-year-old, or in the short-term (< 6 months) repeated tests. 

Common Breast Abnormalities

- Hyperplasia of mammary glands

Mammary gland hyperplasia is one of the common present conditions in females, which can happen at any ages after puberty. Mammary gland hyperplasia is neither inflammation nor tumor. It is actually the structural disorders in normal tissue. 

The majorities of patients have breast lumps and associated single or bilateral breast distending pain. The pain presents with cyclically, may happen before premenstrual period or get worse, lighten or disappear after period.

- Benign lumps in mammary glands

- Breast cancer

When it comes to breast related diseases, everyone will think of breast cancer, this is completely understandable. As the Top-one female malignant tumor, the incidence of breast cancer makes 7-10% proportion of the whole body malignant tumor. In recent years, the incidence of breast cancer continues to increase, while the onset age was trending younger. Especially some famous Star was dead in breast cancer is also increased the knowledge of the disease in public.

- Diagnosis and screening in breast cancer 

Once found suspicious signs, we should timely to see the doctor or a breast surgeon to check the mammary gland and clear the diagnosis. Molybdenum target X-ray photography and breast ultrasonic test may be applied in helping diagnose.

At present, the molybdenum target X-ray angiography test and mammary gland ultrasonic test are the most commonly used and most effective auxiliary methods in clinical to help diagnosis of breast cancer. Especially the molybdenum target X-ray photography test, it can reveal the small lumps which cannot be noticed during physical examination, as well to identify the benign and malignant tumor.

TIPS in women’s physical health and wellbeing

  • The abnormality of emotion is one of the important factors that affects female condition even influence the menstruation period.

  • Learning more about emotion control, try to keep emotional stability and a happy mood.

  • Insist on doing physical exercises and keep body weigh within normal range.

  • Quit smoking, drink alcohol occasionally.

  • Careful using the hormonal medications, ensure the indication and under doctor’s prescription.

  • Keep genital hygiene, taking shower is suggested.

  • Use soft and clean hygienic products, underwear should be washed regularly and hung to dry under direct sunshine.

  • Getting and being a mother (not over 35 year-old preferred), breast feeding recommended.

  • Accept the change of life span, and develop a healthy family and social relationships, it is especially beneficial to stabilize the female endocrine hormone levels and prevention related diseases.

  • Regular health checkup is quite important for each of woman.
